Camp Edelweiss
(Bad Tolz, Germany)

Period of Operation

1969 - 19??

Location

Camp Edelweiss (closed) was brand new in 1969. It contained 8 camp sites and could support 224 scouts. It replaced Camp Heritage at Grafenwoehr. The camp was located in the heart of Bavaria, 3 miles from Bad Tolz. A heated, Indoor Olympic size swimming pool was one of the outstanding features.

Facilities

Troops lived in 2-man tents, each patrol had its own canmpsite and kitchen area. It was a Jamboree style camp where patrols drew rations & prepared all their own meals. Charcoal, stoves, and cooking utensils were furnished. Campers brought their own sleeping and personal gear.

Program

In addition to swimming & livesaving, Camp Edelweiss featured archery, axe yard, rope yard, compass & mapping course, nature trail, tacking & trailing and many more Scoutcraft training facilities. Troops and patrols were encouraged to use the facilities and progam equipment in conducting their own training program with or without the help of a qualified camp staff. Outstanding instructors were available to teach aquatics subjects and to assist reqular troop leadership as needed in helping boys on the eagle trail.
