Location
Camp Freedom is the Transatlantic Council's oldest and largest established camp. Affectionately known as Damp Freezedom due to the frequent rain and cold weather that can occur in July. It was established in 1956. It is located at Dautphe, north of Giessen, in the State of Hessen. The camp is in the foothills of the Westerwald Range. The camp covers one hundred and eighty-two acres.
Facilities
Troops move into an established canvas city - complete with all the health & safety, recreational and educational facilities - and meals are served family style in a dining hall. Camp sites are equipped with 2-man tents, cots and tent platforms. Scouts and leaders bring own sleeping bag or blankets.
Program
Troops attend Camp Freedom under their own leadership. Whenever possible, regular unit leadership use the camp's excellent Scoutcraft facilities and equipment to train their own boys. Qualified councelors operate the aquatic program at the city pool, archery, pellet rifle range, and are available to help Scouts complete all outdoor tests for Second & First Class, and most of the outdoor merit badges. The camp has a well-stocked Trading Post, hot showers, latrines with hand washing facilities, and many acres of prime hiking area.
