Camp Hubertus
(Germany)

Period of Operation

1973?-19??

Camp Hohenfels started in 1971, thru the efforts of Col. Norman P.Chandler, commander of the Hohenfels Training Center, as part of the Frankenwald District of the Transatlantic Council. It was used routinely for the Spring and Fall Camporees, as well as a camp site for a number of the troops of military dependents.

The Black Eagle Lodge held at least 2 Ordeals here, where much of the work necessary to make the camp “presentable” were done. The neckerchief (no scan available) was presented to a number of commissioners and interested others as a gift commemorating Camp Hubertus, but also as a token for the unity of the commissioner staff at the camp with Col. Chandler.  He received the Silver Beaver in 1973 for his efforts, and my last visit to Camp Hubertus was in 1974.
