Camp Kandersteg/Alpine Patch History

Welcome to a little piece of the Transatlantic Camp Patch History. I hope you enjoy your visit. This may take a while to load.

The Kandersteg Internation Camp is located 3800 ft. above sea level in the Bernese Oberland. It is on the main railroad line. It is the starting point for big mountain excursions up such peaks as Blumlisalp (12,040 ft), the Doldenhorn (11,975 ft.) Altels (11,930 ft), and Balmhorn (12,175 ft). The location for this camp was actually selected by Lord Baden Powell. Originally this camp was operated as Camp Kandersteg for a short time and operation eventuallty ceased. In 2000, the Transatlantic Council resurrected this camp and it is now known as Camp Alpine.

Kandersteg International Scout Center is the host and operates year-round.

FACILITIES:
Troops are assigned a campsite near the International Scout Chalet. You bring your own tents, sleeping gear, cooking gear, personal items, and hiking equipment. Water and latrines are available. Food is catered by KISC.

PROGRAM:
Kandersteg is a rugged, high mountain camp where High Adventure is the focus. In addition to an opportunity to do some rugged hiking and camping in the Alps, you will find yourself camping with scouts from all parts of the world. Most Transatlantic Council Scouts know this also as the location of their annual Klondike (Alpine?) Derby which doubles as a true winter wonderland with every outdoor winter sport available.
