Camp Tuscany was located at Camp Darby, near the town of Pisa, Italy in an area of 5 acres covered with "umbrella" pine trees. It is a popular European resort area and is part of the Italian Riviera. As such, sunny weather is 90% assured with warm days and cool nights virtually guaranteed. Facilities of Camp Darby were readily accessible to the camp.
FacilitiesTroops lived in two-man wall tents equipped with cots. A comfortable, enclosed central dining facility with a capacity for 150 was provided. Campers would responsible for bringing their own sleeping and personal gear. A centrally located, modern, hot water shower house complex with toilets, electricity, mirrors and sinks were provided. A fully stocked trading post, offered program support materials and limited camping equipment.
ProgramMost outdoor merit badges were offered with the exception of aquatic merit badges. Troops swims in the Mediterranean under the direction of their Scoutmaster at the American Beach. Special programs for the first year campers, as well as, veteran campers were set up according to the needs of each troop. Day trips to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and other tourist attractions could be arranged. Qualified staffers were available to assist the program needs of each troop.
